The Rapid Relief Team of Hastings were pleased to show some Christmas Cheer to the local community.

On Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th December, a BBQ was arranged to promote a happy and safe Christmas and holiday season. This was organised by the Hawke’s Bay Whangaia Team, in conjunction with RRT (Rapid Relief Team), at Flaxmere and Maraenui Parks. RRT provided all the food and drinks for the events and up to 13 volunteers were there on the day cooking and serving.

RRT volunteers serving up the saussies! Definitely a kiwi favorite.

At Flaxmere Park, the first 500 sausages went in a flash and a sausage run to Flaxmere New World was needed to get more supplies. In total, 1100 sausages were cooked and all were eaten!

The smell of the BBQ wafting through the air soon drew the local community together!

The
Police ran free raffles giving away Pepi Koha packs, a hamper donated by
Flaxmere New World, lolly bags donated by Tamatea Pak n Save and vouchers
donated by Mama’s Donuts. RRT also support the Whangaia team during the year by
donating food boxes that are given out to families in need.

The table of goodies.

What a rewarding way to finish 2019, doing what our volunteers love doing- serving, smiling and giving to those in need. We hope everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing holiday with their family and look forward to seeing you again in 2020.
