Driver Training Program

The young people of New Zealand continue to be a key focus area for Rapid Relief Team (RRT). Young, energetic and in the prime of their lives, RRT realised the value of supporting these youngsters and helping to make a positive impact on their future.

One of the biggest barriers to employment is the inability of students to attain either a Restricted or a Full driving licence. Helping students to become ‘work ready’ is an essential goal in senior years of schooling and a structured driver training program helps ensure students get their licence and dramatically improves their ability to secure employment.

This program was rolled out during 2018 with Manurewa High School in Auckland. RRT donated a vehicle and provides additional funds on a quarterly basis to help cover ongoing running costs. Following the success of this program at Manurewa High School, RRT wanted to do more for students and are now working the same program with Blue Light, Kainga Pasifika Hawkes Bay, and Rule Education Trust.

"Having the driving lessons every week has given me the confidence in the ability to drive and also in other areas of my life."

Blue Light

“A great initiative from the RRT which will help the youth in our community. By supplying a vehicle to our local secondary schools so that our youth can get their Driver’s Licence, they will be receiving expert driving tuition which will set them up well for being safe on our road.”

“Students were grateful for the help and support they received to achieve their goal and they all stated ‘what a great x-mas present that was’.”

“Our students have pride and confidence when driving the Swift because it is a newer vehicle to what many of them are used to. Feedback is the car is easy to drive. The students who drive the Swift are school students, police referrals and unemployed jobseekers. The people trained in this vehicle inspire friends, family, and neighbours to get a driver licence so there is a major ripple effect in our communities.”

“Thank you again for your support. The car is really making a difference in supporting our students into meaningful work and further training and is very much being noticed in our community as well as gaining a really positive reputation around school.”
