RRT helps fund life-saving equipment for Palmerston North Hospital
The Rapid Relief Team (RRT), alongside other donors, has contributed $68,000 towards new equipment for Palmerston North Regional Hospital.
The donation has funded three high-priority pieces of equipment that will support newborn care, safer patient monitoring, and faster diagnostics:
Panda Infant Resuscitaire Unit – replacing an older model in the operating theatre. Resuscitaires are used to support newborn babies if they are struggling to breathe.
Patient at Risk (PAR) Portable High Acuity Monitor – used to continually track a critically ill patient’s vital signs and alert staff if there is any deterioration, supporting safer monitoring during urgent transfers.
TBI Kit Doppler – measures blood flow to the limbs. With the hospital recently expanding its vascular specialty service, this equipment will help speed up diagnoses and support timely treatment decisions.
Local Team Leader Matt Goddin said the RRT worked with Health New Zealand to understand which equipment was most needed.
“We really appreciate the hard work done by frontline workers in our health system to keep our community healthy and safe — and we wanted to help ensure they have the equipment they need to keep saving lives,” said Matt.
“We wanted to ensure this donation would help fulfil some of the items at the top of the wish lists of doctors and nurses at Mid Central Hospital.”
Associate Director of Nursing Jo Middleton said hospital staff were grateful for the support.
“This generous donation will help us save countless lives at Palmerston North Hospital, and we are so grateful to the RRT for helping to make this happen”

RRT provided $8,000 towards the final cost, with $60,000 contributed by a charitable trust.
