Ten New Neonatal Cots Support Middlemore Hospital’s Smallest Patients
Ten new neonatal cots are helping Middlemore Hospital care for some of its smallest patients, following a donation from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT).
The state-of-the-art ‘Tom 2’ cots replace equipment that is more than 30 years old and will go directly into the hospital’s medical and surgical wards.
Middlemore is home to one of New Zealand’s busiest neonatal units, which frequently operates at or beyond capacity. The new cots will help more babies receive the specialist care they need while easing pressure on the service.
Middlemore Foundation CEO Margi Mellsop said the Foundation was delighted with the donation.
“We are so thrilled that RRT have been able to help us with 10 of these incredible cots, which are replacing cots that are over 30 years old and will go immediately to our medical and surgical wards,” Ms Mellsop said.
“This has also been backed by the wider generosity of the whole campaign – donors like Hynds, Kelliher, Rotary and our general donors have contributed to the additional costs of getting these cots installed and ready for our tamariki.
“It’s a really amazing, very practical and pragmatic way of helping our gorgeous tamariki of Counties Manukau. A huge thank you to RRT for your compassion in action.”
RRT Director Jon Renton said the donation reflected RRT’s focus on providing practical support that makes a meaningful difference for people in need.
“This neonatal unit is one of the busiest in the country, and these much-needed cots represent the kind of tangible, frontline support that RRT is all about,” Mr Renton said.
“We have enormous respect for the dedicated staff at Middlemore. They work tirelessly to care for people in real moments of need. Many of our own volunteers and their families have been cared for at Middlemore Hospital, so this donation is particularly close to our hearts.
“We also want to thank our generous donors from the National Assistance Fund, whose support has helped make this possible.”
