Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Open Hangar Evening Welcomes New Rescue Helicopter to the Coast

The Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust welcomed local mayors, community supporters and donors to its Open Hangar Evening on 13 May 2026, celebrating the arrival of the new H145 rescue helicopter dedicated to serving West Coast communities.
The Trust provides emergency rescue helicopter support across the West Coast, helping connect remote communities with urgent medical care and rescue services. The evening gave attendees the opportunity to see the new aircraft up close and recognise the community support that helped make the project possible.
Rapid Relief Team (RRT) was glad to support the event by serving 100 meals to guests, and was glad to recognise the important role the new helicopter will play as a critical part of the West Coast’s emergency response.
The evening also gave RRT volunteers the opportunity to see the new helicopter in person after contributing $20,948 towards the project last year. The donation was made possible through funds raised by RRT at a public fundraising event on 7 December 2024, together with generous contributions from the local community. The helicopter now features RRT’s logo in recognition of that support, reflecting the collective effort that helped bring this important emergency service asset to the West Coast.
