RRT Attend Nottingham Train Station Fire

Friday 12th January 2018, 6:30am. Reports of a fire at Nottingham train station. 9:20am Nottingham RRT were asked to provide assistance to the emergency services on the ground, in excess of 100 men and women.
RRT were on site by 11am and set up camp a few yards away from the Incident Command Centre. Snacks and drinks were served straight away and lunch was served between 12-1pm.
The conditions that the firefighters were facing (heat and dust) was the worst that most of them had ever experienced, even guys who had been in the brigade for 20 years! The comments started pouring in,
“you’re a God send,” “we couldn’t have fought this fire without your support,” “you wouldn’t believe what a morale booster this is for the guys.” One firefighter commented that this was the first time he had drunk a cappuccino whilst fighting a fire.
RRT provided over 140 burgers, over 130 packets of crisps, 125 donuts, 350 biscuits, over 400 hot drinks and over 100 cans of pop.

Jo Johnson, Minister of State for the Department for Transport attended the scene in the afternoon to thank the emergency services for the work they had done and also East Midlands Trains and Network Rail in working to get the station up and running as soon as possible. Approximately 300 passengers were evacuated at the time of the fire. Nottingham Station has over 16,000 passengers getting off trains every day.
Platforms 1-5 were opened in the early hours of Saturday morning but the main walkway accessing platforms 6 & 7 remained closed.
