Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has supported frontline crews during the major flooding emergency in Bundaberg, providing emergency workers with 1,200 meals over six days.
As the region has been inundated by rising floodwaters, RRT volunteers have been serving breakfast, lunch and dinner at the State Emergency Services (SES) headquarters.
Local Team Leader Jon Bowder said RRT were on the ground from Tuesday until late Sunday, ensuring emergency workers were well-fed and energised during the unfolding emergency.
“Our volunteers have been providing meals around the clock to the SES, police and firefighters during this disaster,” said Jon.
“From cooking up breakfast burgers to preparing snack packs for those on the field, RRT has served 1,200 meals.
“This has been a full-circle moment for me, as I can clearly remember standing at the same location during the 2013 floods when a group of our volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church were supporting SES crews – back before we were officially named RRT.”
RRT also assisted with sandbagging efforts, helping to fill and load sandbags for residents.
