The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has helped keep competitors’ strength up as they tested their skills at the Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Firefighter Championships in Tamworth, with volunteers serving more than 270 meals.
The event at the Gipps Street Playing Fields saw 21 Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service crews competing in 11 events, like ladder climbs, rescue tasks and hydrant connections.
The championships test agility, teamwork and operational skills to help firefighters strengthen their capabilities in a competitive but safe environment.
Local Team Leader Scott McDonald said volunteers served 126 breakfast burgers and 150 Signature Burgers to participants as well as barista-made coffees.
“RRT is always keen to support our firies, whether that’s during an emergency or for a fun, skill building competition like the Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Firefighter Championships,” said Scott.
“Our volunteers feel privileged to be part of events like this because firefighters do so much to keep our communities safe, and we want to give back and support them whenever we can.”
“During the Championships we made sure firefighters and crews were well-fed, allowing them to focus on competition and training, and strengthening their team bonds.”
As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community. These efforts reflect the Plymouth Brethren beliefs, which guide members to support communities through practical care and service.
Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
