The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has supported the Great Aussie Hike in Victoria’s beautiful Dandenong Ranges, as participants walked up to 50 kilometres to raise money for charity.

RRT volunteers from Berwick provided 2,930 meals to walkers, including bacon and egg rolls, Signature Burgers, snacks and barista-made coffee.

Local Team Leader Simon Mauger said RRT has been supporting the Great Aussie Hike in Victoria for the past few years.

“The Great Aussie Hike is a great initiative that brings people together to share an adventure in a beautiful environment,” said Simon.

“RRT is honoured to be back for another year, cheering on participants who are raising money for a great cause, and boosting their energy with meals and coffees so they can keep going.”This year, all funds raised by Great Aussie Hike go to Mums Supporting Families in Need (MSFIN) to provide basic living essentials.

Founder Anna Kelly started the Great Aussie Hike with the aim of helping people connect and support their mental health during Covid lockdowns in 2020.

“We are grateful for the amazing support we get each event from the Rapid Relief Team,” said Anna. “RRT is an integral part of the Great Aussie Hike experience, playing a significant role in participants feeling incredibly supported along their journey.

“This in turn is reflected with increased fundraising for the causes we choose to support. RRT’s involvement results in significantly more people in need being helped.”

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community. Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 16,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
