RRT PRESS RELEASE

Friday, 23rd October 2026

Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers from Geelong served 400 meals to staff at St John of God Hospital Geelong, recognising the dedication of healthcare workers who care for the local community every day.

A team of 22 RRT volunteers came together to prepare and serve meals as part of an appreciation initiative to thank the nurses and hospital staff who work tirelessly to provide care and support to patients and their families.

The initiative gave healthcare workers an opportunity to step away from their busy schedules, enjoy a meal and feel appreciated for their ongoing efforts. By providing meals, RRT volunteers created a welcoming space for hospital staff to take a short break, recharge and return to their important work.

For many Geelong RRT volunteers, supporting local hospital teams carries a personal connection, as their own family members and loved ones may have received care at the hospital.

RRT Geelong Local Team Leader Wade Connell said the initiative was a meaningful opportunity for the team to give back to healthcare workers who dedicate themselves to caring for the local community.

“Our local healthcare workers do an incredible job caring for patients and their families every day, and this was a small way for our volunteers to show their appreciation.

“For many of our volunteers, this initiative is particularly meaningful, as our own families and loved ones have benefited from the care provided by local hospital staff. We were delighted to give something back and help them take a well-deserved break.”

Through meal services and appreciation events, RRT volunteers help recognise healthcare workers and the important role they play in caring for their communities.
