RRT Joins London Build Expo to Tackle Mental Health in Construction

Posted: December 15, 2024

In November 2024, RRT volunteer Roland Coldrick participated in a panel discussion on mental health in construction at the London Build Expo. Andy Stevens, CEO of The Build Network UK, chaired the discussion, which also featured Fay Simpkins of National Highways and Matt Harthill of Lyndon SGB.

Roland, an active volunteer and member of RRT’s Construction Community Connect (C3) initiative, shared how the organisation supports mental health efforts in the construction industry. He discussed the stigma surrounding mental health in male-dominated sectors and highlighted RRT’s mission to raise awareness. RRT engages in events encouraging open conversations and offering free barista-quality coffee and doughnuts to create a welcoming space for workers.

RRT also introduced a dedicated vehicle touring construction sites, providing coffee, doughnuts, and mental health conversations. In addition to London Build, RRT has supported events like Hinkley Point, serving over 1,000 coffees alongside mental health charities, and contributed to HS2’s mental health initiative, providing 1,200 meals to workers while promoting mental health awareness. These initiatives reflect RRT’s ongoing commitment to improving mental health in construction.
