Hope and Awareness at Foyle Women’s Aid Event
On December 18th, family and friends came in support as Foyle Women’s Aid hosted a family fun day for the residents of Ashleywood House, providing shelter to those sheltering from domestic violence. This critical event helped raise awareness of domestic abuse while showing attendees that they are not alone and that care and support are available.
Foyle Women’s Aid is an essential charity committed to combating domestic abuse through education, awareness, and comprehensive support. Serving Derry~Londonderry, Strabane, Limavady, and Dungiven, they provide a range of crucial services, including secure, short-term accommodation at confidential locations, specialised support for children and young people affected by domestic abuse, community-based support for women in the Foyle, Limavady, and Strabane areas, and court support to guide individuals through the legal process with vital information and assistance.
Local volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) Londonderry supported the event by setting up their red tent and grilling 135 burgers, providing meals and refreshments to attendees. RRT was honoured to be part of the event, raising awareness and showing solidarity with those affected by domestic violence.
The event was a great success, with friends and family coming together in support of those affected by domestic violence. Attendees shared meaningful conversations, offered support, and gained reassurance that services were available to help. Burgers and drinks were enjoyed, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere for all involved.
