Charity Volunteers fuel 120 Cyclists Riding For Children’s Hospice Care
A two-day cycle ride raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West has taken on the Bristol to St Austell route, and charity the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) was there to keep riders going, serving refreshments to more than 120 cyclists along the way.
Children’s Hospice South West provides specialist hospice care for babies, children and young people living with life-limiting conditions, offering wraparound support for whole families at some of the most difficult times imaginable. The Bristol to St Austell ride brought together 120 cyclists across Friday and Saturday, united by a shared determination to raise funds for a charity that makes a profound difference to families across the South West.
RRT volunteers from the Taunton team set up a water stop on both days of the ride, meeting cyclists along the route with snacks, cold drinks, and, a particular highlight in the summer heat, more than 60 iced lattes. Four volunteers kept the pit stop running across the full two days, ensuring every rider had the fuel to finish and raise as much as possible for the cause.
"It was a real privilege to support the riders on such a meaningful challenge. Cycling from Bristol to St Austell is no small feat, especially in the heat, and we were delighted to provide a much-needed caffeine boost and a moment to pause and recharge. The cause couldn't be more important — Children's Hospice South West does incredible work for families going through some of life's most difficult moments, and we were glad to play a small part in supporting that."

The Rapid Relief Team is made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, who have been putting compassion into action since 2013. With over a decade of experience supporting charities, emergency services, and community organisations across the UK, RRT volunteers are motivated by a genuine desire to give back to the communities around them, showing up wherever they are needed with practical care and a commitment to serving others.
