Reading RRT supports Newbury Fire Station Open Day

On Saturday 27th July, the team from RRT Reading supported the ROYAL Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) Fire Station Open Day in Newbury. Visitors were given the chance to meet local firefighters and watch exciting demonstrations where appliances and equipment were used.
In total, the RRT served over 400 meals to the Fire, Police and Ambulance crews and the members of the public who attended the event. All proceeds raised from the event were donated to the Firefighters Charity and West Berks Homeless Charity.

West Berks Homeless
West Berks Homeless is a community-based charity in West Berkshire set up to assist the homeless back into a home. Their aim is zero tolerance to homelessness in the area.
To support a homeless person into accommodation costs around £1,000 to rent a single room or £1,800 to move into a studio flat or similar. West Berkshire Homeless have assisted just under 50 individuals into accommodation or helped to avoid eviction since the charity was formed in February 2017. They have proved that finding homes for individuals gives them the ability to move forward and make lifestyle changes.
The Fire Fighters’ Charity
Being a member of the UK’s dedicated fire services community can involve significant mental, physical and social challenges. The Fire Fighters’ Charity is the UK’s leading provider of rehabilitation and support services for the fire and rescue community, including serving and retired firefighters, fire service personnel and their dependants.
It costs over £8 million every year to keep the charity running. They are only able to carry on their important work through donations and fundraising activities such as the Fire Station Open Day in Newbury.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported this superb event. We hope you had as much fun as we did!
