Horsham RRT Support Surrey Fire & Rescue Services Open Day

On 20th July 2019, Horsham RRT attended the Surrey Fire and Rescue Services Open Day. Their mission was to provide meals for everyone at the event, including service personnel and members of the public. With an estimated 2,000 meals required, it was going to be a big day for the team!

With a smooth set up and great teamwork, the BBQ was up and running by 11:00am ready for the first of the meal to be served at 11:30am. There was a suggested donation of £5 per meal, with all proceeds going to The Fire Fighters Charity. The Fire Fighters Charity supports firefighters who have been injured physically or mentally, to get them back on their feet after a traumatic experience. Horsham RRT spoke to Andy during the day who told them a little more about what this charity does.
Horsham RRT was also lucky enough to speak to two other prominent guests: Tony Samuels, the Chairman of the Surrey County Council, and Steve Owen-Hughes, Chief Fire Officer for Surrey.
The day was a huge success, raising over £4,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity. It was not only a fun day out, but educational too, with members of the public gaining an insight into the amazing work of our emergency services. The RRT were warmly thanked by service personnel for their support on the day, testament to the strong collaboration between the Horsham RRT and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Thanks to the 32 volunteers from Horsham RRT who worked so hard on the day.
