RRT Gloucester Supports Evacuated Families and Emergency Services at RAF Fairford
On Sunday 27th September, around 85 families in Gloucestershire were asked to leave their homes as emergency services responded to an incident near RAF Fairford. For the residents affected, it meant an unexpected and unsettling night away from home – and for the emergency service teams on the ground, a long operational response that stretched through to Monday morning.
As the evening unfolded, RRT Gloucester arrived on scene to serve hot meals to both evacuated residents and the emergency services working throughout. 14 volunteers served 200 hot meals across the course of the evening and into the following morning, ensuring that those affected had something warm and sustaining as the response continued.
"It was a difficult night for a lot of people. Our volunteers were honoured to be there - to make sure families had something warm and that the emergency services working through the night felt supported. The community response from everyone involved was inspiring."
