Portsmouth Families Brought Together at Pompey Games as RRT Volunteers Serve 332 Meals at Free Community Day
On 12 September 2026, hundreds of families from across Portsmouth gathered at The Pompey Games – a free community day built around simple, accessible activities and the idea that everyone deserves a chance to take part.
Held at the Mountbatten Centre from 11am to 3pm, the event welcomed up to 500 people and was designed with the families of Portsea and Paulsgrove particularly in mind. A friendly North vs South theme ran through the day, with relay-style challenges, team games, and activities suited to all ages and abilities. Free entry was central – for many families, the cost and accessibility of local events can be a real barrier, and The Pompey Games was built to remove it.
At the heart of it all were young people. Confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging were woven through every activity, with families free to move between games, take their time, and simply enjoy the day together.
To support the event, RRT Portsmouth volunteers provided 332 hot meals and cold drinks throughout the afternoon. Food on site meant families could stay longer, settle in, and make the most of what was on offer.
The RRT, made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, provides practical support to community events, emergency services and charities across the UK.
"The Pompey Games was a brilliant day for Portsmouth - families from across the city coming together to play, laugh, and connect. Seeing young people and families take part in something free, welcoming, and genuinely fun was what made the day so special. It was our pleasure to provide food and refreshments and to play a small part in helping people feel at home."
