RRT Harrogate Supports the Great Knaresborough Bed Race
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race has taken place every year since 1966, a unique blend of community spirit, fundraising, and sheer spectacle. Organised by volunteers from the Knaresborough Lions, the event sees up to 90 teams push decorated beds and their passengers through 2.4 miles of demanding terrain: across parkland, through the Nidd Gorge, up to the town centre, and through the icy waters of the River Nidd.
This year, three RRT Harrogate volunteers supported the day, distributing 900 water bottles to teams, spectators, and organisers to help keep everyone refreshed throughout the event.
"The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is a wonderful example of a community coming together to support those around them. It was a privilege for our volunteers to play a small part in the day, and we hope everyone who took on the course felt supported from start to finish."
Hadyn Oliver
RRT Harrogate Local Team Leader
The race raises vital funds for local charitable and community causes in and around Knaresborough, and with 90 beds on the start line this year, the atmosphere was everything the event is known for.
The Rapid Relief Team (RRT), made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, supports emergency responders, essential workers, and local community events across the UK.
