RRT Supports Nurses Across the UK on International Nurses Day

Posted: May 14, 2026

On International Nurses Day, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) was honoured to support more than 4,000 nurses across the UK, recognising the dedication and compassion they show every day in caring for others.

Across six locations – Warwick Hospital, Milton Keynes University Hospital, Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, Bedford Hospital, Ashgate Hospice, and Walsgrave University Hospital – RRT volunteers came together to serve 4,034 nurses with freshly prepared burger meals, coffee, and cakes, offering a simple but meaningful gesture of appreciation to those working tirelessly on the front line of healthcare.

Fiona Hoskins, Chief Nursing Officer at Milton Keynes University Hospital, shared her appreciation:

“The faces of our hardworking colleagues lit up when they saw your tables heaving with cake, fruit and coffee – it was priceless. Our people care for others every working day, and RRT extended care back to them which meant so much. The coffee and cake were delicious, and the positive energy and kindness of the RRT team made the experience extra special. Thank you RRT.”

Fiona Hoskins

Chief Nursing Officer

The day highlighted the vital role nurses play in our communities and the importance of taking time to recognise their unwavering commitment and care.

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT), made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, supports emergency responders, essential workers, and community events across the UK. In addition, RRT launched A&E Appreciation Week last October, recognising the hard work of A&E staff whose work often goes unrecognised, reaching over 10,000 nurses with coffee and cake as a thank you for their vital work.
