RRT Exeter Responds to Exmouth Bomb Incident
The recent bomb disposal incident in Exmouth caused significant disruption across the local community, with road closures, evacuations, and restricted access affecting hundreds of residents and businesses. Large numbers of emergency services personnel were deployed, including police, fire crews, bomb disposal units, coastguard teams, and search‑and‑rescue specialists, all working together to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
As part of the response, RRT Exeter and RRT Plymouth provided practical support to those managing the incident. RRT Exeter served 200 hot meals to emergency teams stationed in Exmouth, while RRT Plymouth provided 60 meals to personnel deployed in Plymouth. Volunteers supported late‑night operations, serving meals until after midnight before returning early the following morning to continue assisting as the situation unfolded.
One officer deployed in Exmouth shared his appreciation for the support:
“I just want to say a really, really massive thank you to the Rapid Relief Team because you’ve fed us here in the lifeboat station in Exmouth. You’ve kept everybody going — it’s been a rainy, miserable day, everyone’s running at 100,000 mph trying to look after members of our community. An army marches on its stomach, and you’ve kept us going, so massive appreciation. We genuinely can’t thank you enough.”
“It was a privilege to support the emergency teams during such a complex and disruptive incident. Their professionalism and commitment was remarkable, and we were grateful to offer a warm meal and a small moment of relief as they worked to keep the community safe.”
