RRT Stamford Supports Leicestershire Multi-Agency Emergency Response Exercise

Posted: March 25, 2025

Organised by the Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum (LRF), ‘Exercise Mercury’ was a large-scale live drill involving Leicestershire Police, Ambulance and Fire Services which aimed to test the ability of emergency services and other responders to deal with a major road traffic collision on the motorway.

The event tested emergency response strategies, ensuring frontline services are well-prepared for real-life incidents. LRFs are multi-agency partnerships across the country that coordinate emergency preparedness and response, bringing together essential emergency services from a across a whole region.

Volunteers from the RRT were on site to provide 420 freshly prepared burger meals and hot drinks, helping to sustain participants throughout the rigorous training. Despite challenging weather conditions and cold winds, our volunteers remained positive and welcoming, with many emergency responders returning for second and even third servings – clear evidence of how well the meals were received!

“Supporting emergency responders is at the heart of what we do at the RRT. We were glad to be on site at Exercise Mercury to support the vital efforts of the Leicestershire LRF. We know how important these training events are in preparing teams for real emergencies, and we were delighted to serve our signature burger meals to all those involved. “The Leicestershire LRF does incredible work keeping us safe and it was impressive seeing so many frontline workers come together to collaborate in this large-scale exercise.”
