RRT Support NHS Staff on Blue Monday

Posted: February 17, 2025

On January 20th, local volunteers from The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) Watford joined forces with the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust to support NHS staff during their Blue Monday event.

This initiative recognised and celebrated the invaluable contributions of NHS staff to the community. The East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity enhances patient care across four hospitals, including Lister and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. It funds advanced equipment, staff well-being initiatives, and special services like end-of-life care. Supporters can contribute through donations, fundraising, and volunteering. Learn more at enhhcharity.org.uk. Blue Monday, observed on the third Monday of January, is challenging for many.

The event aims to support those struggling with mental health by encouraging them to seek help and reminding them they are not alone. By addressing mental health stigma, Blue Monday fosters an environment where staff and the community feel empowered to reach out for support. This year’s event was a great success, with an excellent turnout. NHS talking therapists were present to support staff and members of the public, offering conversations and a listening ear to those in need. Participants also enjoyed the warm atmosphere, highlighted by burger meals.

Local volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) served approximately 350 burger meals and refreshments during the event. RRT is honoured to support this initiative, as mental health remains a pressing issue in the UK. According to recent statistics, 1 in 4 adults experiences a mental health problem each year, with depression and anxiety being among the most common conditions. Efforts like Blue Monday are crucial in breaking the stigma and fostering hope and connection for those in need.
