RRT Penrith Volunteers Support Amarli Army Trek for Rare Genetic Conditions
RRT PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday 20th October 2026
Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers from Penrith supported the Trek for Amarli on Saturday, 17 October, providing a hot breakfast to participants as they came together to raise awareness and funds for children and families affected by rare genetic conditions.
Amarli Army was established by family and friends inspired by Amarli Broome, a young girl living with a rare genetic condition known as GRIK2. The organisation brings together families, businesses and community supporters to raise awareness and make a difference.
Through this initiative, Amarli Army encourages participants to come together through physical activity, teamwork and community spirit, turning their efforts into meaningful support for children and families affected by rare genetic conditions. Now in its third year, the Trek for Amarli brought participants together for a 30-kilometre coastal walk from Stanwell Park to Wollongong Harbour.
Funds raised through Amarli Army initiatives help support research into better treatments for rare genetic disorders, including through the CureGRIN Foundation.
RRT Penrith volunteers prepared and served 110 bacon and egg rolls, providing participants with a hot breakfast to help them start the day and fuel up for the trek ahead.
RRT Penrith Local Team Leader Brian Lee said volunteers were proud to support an initiative that brings the community together for an important cause.
“Our volunteers were delighted to play a small part in the day by providing a hot breakfast, helping participants prepare for the trek and focus on supporting a cause that makes a real difference to families.
“It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to support Amarli Army and raise awareness of rare genetic conditions.”
Through its support of community initiatives, RRT helps bring people together and provides practical assistance to events raising awareness and funds for important causes.
