AU – Blaze-Aid Concert & RRT Meal for Fire Victims
RRT donates meals to raise money for victims of recent Sampson Flat Fires
The Blaze Aid Community Gala, held at Gumeracha Town Hall on the evening of Saturday the 28th February, attracted around 230 people. Those who attended ranged from the local CFS crew, those who had lost their houses in the fire, members of the public, to members of local bands and choirs. This concert was held by Blaze-Aid to raise funds to support those affected by the recent Sampson Flat fires that roared through the Adelaide hills region a month earlier. Over 25 houses and properties were destroyed the fire was declared the worst in the area since the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983.
[Blaze Aid’s aim is to help communities recover after natural disasters, and is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods.]
The Adelaide and Mt Barker RRT team set up around 4pm Saturday afternoon on the Gumeracha Town Hall carpark area, and began preparing food for the concertgoers.
The Adelaide / Mt Barker RRT team served fresh bread rolls with Black Angus meat patties, onion, cheese, beetroot, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise and sauce, along with water and soft drinks throughout the afternoon. These were very well received by the concert goers, who enjoyed their food while watching the CFS demonstrations, or listening to the band which played some songs for the crowd in the carpark on the back of a truck, before the start of the concert at 7pm.
RRT served the last attendees at around 7pm, and then cleared up once the concert had begun. A total of around 165 meals were served, of which all the funds were collected by the Blaze-Aid foundation.
One comment from a concertgoer was that the burgers were ‘…the best, because they were all made with love’.
The concert was a great success, with a total amount of $6,615 raised all up by Blaze-Aid, of which $615 was raised by the meal donated by the Rapid Relief Team. It was a great opportunity for the Rapid Relief Team to support the Blaze-Aid organisation in what they do to support communities affected by disasters.
