In the wake of the dozens of tornadoes that devastated large swathes of the Midwest this week, RRT was swiftly deployed to Elkhorn, NA, and Minden, IA to offer critical support to first responders and communities impacted by the storms.

Within hours of the tornadoes, RRT volunteers from Council Bluffs, Des Moines, and the surrounding areas had mobilized and were on the ground, focusing on Minden, IA, as of Saturday morning, where the damage was most severe, serving 800 burgers and 200 hot dogs in the first 4.5 hours. To date, roughly 3,000 meals have been served, and our volunteers anticipates serving an additional 1,000 meals per day through Sunday, with a potential increase over the weekend.

"All these wonderful folks out here supporting people in this community, providing relief for them—it means so much for the people of Minden to have this support in a moment's notice."

Iowa Senator, Jodi Ernst

“The scale of the clean-up is immense, and there is still a long way to go—roughly 50% of Minden is leveled, and 2/3rds damaged in some way. So, we’ve had more than 120 volunteers on hand from across the region to help feed more than 80 agencies. It’s the least we can do to help fuel responders as they continue their vital work.”

Brett Glen, RRT’s Operational Coordinator
