On August 20, 2016, The Rapid Relief Team from Columbus assisted at the 5th Annual Duck Race Fundraising Event benefiting the The Research Institute at The Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This family-fun event features a 5k and 10k race, children’s race and the famous rubber duck race, as well as a multitude of other children’s activities and entertainment.

The funds raised by the Duck Race are used for the Research Institute as the Children’s Hospital. “The Institute is focused on discovery – an improved treatment for serious childhood illness, and exciting new insight into a basic biological process, a pioneering strategy to prevent injury or disease, or an innovative way to deliver care to the most vulnerable of our children.” Their twelve multidisciplinary research Centers seek answers on behalf of all the sick children around the world and share a common goal of discovery and innovation that improves the health and quality of life for children and their families.

RRT was pleased to be able to help with the event, and helped with the setup, registration, manning the water stops and start/finish line, general supervision and assisting with the duck race. There was over 1000 meals served with the help of the RRT Staff onsite.

The Rubber Duck Race is a huge hit of the day, sending 20,000 rubber duck “Racers” sprinting down the Scioto River after being launch from a bridge. Participants purchase a rubber duck and if their duck is the first across the finish line then they receive a prize.
