The Rapid Relief Team in Minneapolis were honored to provide an Appreciation BBQ to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Personnel at Fairview Ridges Hospital. Around 10am on Saturday 6th of July, RRT began setting up tents, firing up the grills, donning red aprons and preparing the barbecue feast.

An hour and a half later, RRT began to see the first On-Call paramedics ready for an early lunch. RRT served them soft drinks while taking their orders of either fresh burgers or brats. A steady stream of ambulance, fire and police personnel showed up over the course of the next 2.5 hours.

One Police Officer even got the royal treatment of being served two separate lunches, as he had to attend to the call of duty before he could finish his first burger!

As first responders, the EMS squad provides treatment on the scene to those in need of urgent medical care. However, contrary to popular belief not all EMS are medically trained. EMS agencies may also operate the non-emergency patient transport service, and some have units for technical rescue operations such as extrication, water rescue, and search and rescue.

The Rapid Relief Team had a very good time giving back to this amazing group of men and women, who work every day to save lives. The EMS Crew also appeared to enjoy the hot lunch. One paramedic stated “We are volunteers too but we make a living. We really appreciate you coming out here on your own dime and time to serve us a free meal.”
