Des Moines RRT Helps at the Bike MS Event

Bike MS – two small words with such a huge meaning. MS (Multiple Sclerosis) is a disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of the nerves. Globally, more than 2.3 million people between the ages of 20-50 years old are affected by MS. On Saturday, June 25th, almost 300 bikers participated in the 25/50/75/100 mile bike ride at the 2016 Bike MS Event. Around $100,000.00 was raised for funding the research and services provided to those affected by MS.
The 2016 Bike MS Event! The bike ride started and ended at the Firetrucker Brewery in Ankeny, IA. There were multiple rest stops scattered along the routes for the bikers to rest & get the energy to push on. Rain, heat & strong winds didn’t stop these bikers as they peddled to the finish line.

The RRT volunteers did many various tasks to help out at the Bike MS Event, such as sorting the MS shirts and medals at the finish line as well as preparing large bins of cold wet towels for the hot and weary riders. The volunteers also assisted in filling large pools with ice to chill water bottles ready for the bikers to reach the finish line.
