Chicago RRT Provides Food for the Thanksgiving Holiday to Local Food Banks

As the big Thanksgiving Weekend quickly approached, leaves changed color, frost was in the air, and home cooks across the USA began the preparations for their big family feast! While trying to decide if they should brine, fry or roast the Turkey this year, how many took a moment to remember those that are in less fortunate circumstances? Every year countless families across the nation are unable to provide their loved ones with this traditional feast. There are many drives for food, with the local grocers putting out collection boxes, etc., but there always seems to be a need for more!

Rapid Relief Team – Chicago, in joint effort with the Leyden Township Food Bank and the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry, helped make Thanksgiving a reality for over 128 families in 8 different communities this year.

Pre-packed bags of food and gift cards provided by RRT – Chicago were distributed to those in need by the Leyden Township Food Bank in mid-November. Those that received the bags are the friends and neighbours in the communities of Elmwood Park, River Grove, Schiller Park, Franklin Park, Northlake, and Stone Park, and two others.

Each bag was packed with everything for a full traditional Thanksgiving Day feast, according to the size of the family being served. Dry and canned goods were provided for the potatoes, vegetables, muffins, stuffing, etc and a Tony’s gift card for the purchase of the Turkey and perishable items! A warm thank you to Lisa Bauer and Patty Marino of Leyden Township for organizing this beneficial event! Their participation and appreciation was heartfelt.

In addition to these bagged meals for Leyden Township, Rapid Relief Team – Chicago also made a large delivery of dry and canned goods to the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry. The Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry has over 150 persons or families dependent on them for their source of food each week. There is ever a hive of activity here of donations coming in, being sorted, and then set out for collection by those approved by the food bank. Kudos to Judy Jorns for all her tireless efforts keeping things organized at the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry! May all those in need have a warm and happy holiday season.
