On October 21, RRT Baltimore had another great opportunity to do good for the community. The Alliance for Lupus Research hosted the “Walk With Us To Cure Lupus” event.  This foundation’s goal is to improve treatments while advancing Lupus research towards a cure.  This particular event raised over $65,000.   The event set up started by the light of a policeman’s searchlight shining into the tent as the registration tables and food got set up.  RRT members were responsible for distributing donated healthy snacks to the walkers and plenty of water, coconut water,  juices.  Donuts and muffins were also available for after the walk.

Setting up for the event

Walkers started arriving around 8:00 in the morning.   There were over 500 walkers that participated across the Washington Metro area.  Every participant got a t-shirt, purple mustache, bracelet and/or a beaded necklace.  The event was from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and began with the opening ceremonies which included a color guard, the national anthem which was sung by one of the walk participants, and an aerobic warm up.  After the ceremonies, the supporters began their walk.

It was a popular and busy place for events in the area that day.  Just as the walkers for the Lupus event left, another group of walkers from a different event came past right behind them. It turned out to be an absolutely, beautiful day for a walk and everyone came back in high spirits.  Music was playing the whole time during the walk and as everyone got back, there was plenty of dancing and merriment.

There was another organization that planned an event in the same spot that was scheduled after the Lupus Walk which put a rush to the clean-up, which was accomplished in time.  Once again, the organizers thanked the Baltimore RRT for helping to make this event a success.  It was a good day and excellent job done for a worthy cause.

A beautiful day for this event
