May 13, 2017 started out as a gray, drizzly morning for the Annual Lupus Walk. But that didn’t dampen the spirit of RRT or the volunteers there! Purple, the color that Lupus uses which symbolizes creativity and strength, soon brightened up Rash Field, where the event was being held.

Lupus Walk Participants Gathering Around Food Tent

The Alliance for Lupus Research Walk has been such a success as it draws so many people together to fight this difficult disease.  A young girl with Lupus, spoke a bit at this event about how she had this disease since she was in Middle School and how she didn’t think she had any support, until she realized there were events like this to provide help!

You could feel the energy increase as the DJ started and walkers walked toward the purple ribbon that was to be cut to start the walk. Not even the weather could diffuse the enthusiasm of these walkers! One of the speakers at the event said ” Despite the weather, we are still holding this event because Lupus doesn’t stop and we won’t either!” It was encouraging to see the network of support that this group offers to lupus survivors.

A Team of Walkers

RRT volunteers were an integral part of the event assisting in registration, parking, cooking lunch, cheering on the walkers, setting up the tents and cleaning up. The Alliance for Lupus Research event team repeatedly said that without RRT they would not be able to run these events so successfully!

Thanks to the generosity of the donors, over $59,000 was raised that will go to supporting future treatments for Lupus! The walk was truly a success and RRT was pleased to be a key part of it. We look forward to supporting the community in future events!

A Quote From The Event Coordinators:

“On behalf of myself and the Lupus Research Alliance, we can’t thank you enough for your tremendous support not only in Baltimore but across the country. It’s always a pleasure to work with your team. We look forward to continuing working with RRT. Thank you again.”
