‘Colour My Foundation’ is a unique name for a fundraising event, isn’t it? It is a truly unique name but with a unique (and very worthwhile) cause… That is to provide the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation in Estevan, Saskatchewan a fundraising opportunity to raise critical funds for hospital upgrades including critical equipment and expansions.

On Saturday, June 24, 2017, the hospital held its annual ‘Colour My Foundation’ event in which hundreds of participants were involved in the 5K walk/run in the beautiful Woodlawn Park in Estevan. This time, the funds were to go to the ‘Women’s Health and Cervical Cancer Screening Clinic’ slated to open this fall which is coming at a cost to the hospital of $60,000.00.

Some 250+ participants made their way to the park on Saturday with most in crazy outfits bearing many colours! It was a special moment to see participants of every age from the age of 4 right to a very brave and sprightly woman of 87 who conquered this walk/run! This very fun event starts off with a ‘colour toss’s where volunteers at the start throw coloured starch in the air, covering the participants before they even start – then each kilometre has another ‘colour station’ where volunteers throw even more coloured starch on the participants! At the end of the event, many volunteers took to using the rest of the starch on each other – it was a real showering of pink, orange, yellow, blue and purple ‘rain’!

The organizer of the event, Becky Conly didn’t hesitate to commend the sponsors and over 60 volunteers who once again made the day possible because an event of this size requires a lot of coordination! Once again, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) from Oxbow was very pleased and willing to assist, sending over 40 volunteers to this exciting event. This time, RRT assisted in the preparing and serving of an excellent BBQ as well as manning the colour stations, handing out water, cheering on the participants and cleaning up the park when it was said and done!
