London Tillsonburg & Woodstock RRT helps at Jingle Bell Walk -Run for Arthritis Society

On Saturday, November 12th, 2016, the Rapid Relief Team volunteered at the Jingle Bell Walk and Run for Arthritis, which is an event held annually at Spring Bank Park in London, ON. Hosted by the Arthritis Society, this run raises funds to support arthritis research and programs which improve the lives of those living with Arthritis.

For over 65 years, The Arthritis Society has dedicated themselves to setting lives in motion with a vision of living well while creating a future without arthritis. They have reached over 4.6 million Canadians living with arthritis, by providing education, programs and support.

The Rapid Relief Team was delighted for the opportunity to support the Arthritis Society at this fundraising event, and wasted no time pulling together volunteers from three different Ontario Teams. The RRT Volunteers arrived at 8:30 in the morning to help set up for the event, then split into teams and stationed themselves along the trail, to set up the rest stops along the route. The event started at 10:00 am with the 2 km walk, which was followed by the competitive 5 and 10 km events at 10:30.

Throughout both stages of the event, the RRT teams stationed along the trails encouraged the runners and provided water at the midway point of the competitive runs. For some of the participants suffering from arthritis, this run was a major accomplishment, and the energy and enthusiasm of the RRT members was greatly appreciated!

After the run was finished and the competition and fundraising prizes were given out, the RRT helped with cleaning up and putting everything away.
