RRT Canada Serves a Meal at The Ronald McDonald House in London on August 27

On Saturday, August 27th, members of RRT from London, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock prepared and served a meal to the residents of the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in London, Ontario. RMH’s provision for these families clearly lines up with RRT’s mission: To serve people with care and compassion in times of need.

The Ronald McDonald House is for families of children who are undergoing treatment at the Victoria Hospital as a home away from home. Families can stay at the RMH for as long as they need to, the longest someone has stayed at this house was two and a half years.

The Victoria Hospital, is a large 24-hour teaching hospital which is part of the University of Western Ontario and the University Hospital that is a part of the London Health Sciences Center. While caring for their patients, staff, community and they also care for the environment with a goal for minimizing the economic impact of energy consumption on the hospital while addressing climate change and air quality issues. They have been able to lower greenhouse gas emissions by taking 2000 vehicles off the road while saving on energy costs by $1.8 million, between 2000 and 2005.

The Rapid Relief Teams met at the Ronald McDonald House’s kitchen facility at 3:30 PM, to begin setting up for and preparing the meal. Our menu consisted of: Pork Tenderloin & BBQ sauce, Sausage, Mini Mushrooms, Potato Salad, Corn on the Cob, Coleslaw, Bread & Butter and Watermelon. Tuxedo Cake for desert, with Ice Tea and various brands of Soda! Some RRT members brought their own Weber grills to the RMH kitchen to add some smoky flavour to the marinated tenderloins.

The Rapid Relief Team was privileged to be able to provide a bright spot in these families’ lives, and we look forward to working with the RMH again.
