Calgary RRT Helps 2016 MS Bike Ride Airdrie to Olds on June 25!

On June 25, 2016, RRT volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church assisted at a MS Bike Ride Event in Calgary. This event was a bike ride from Airdrie to Olds, Alberta to raise money for The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada has programs to help People manage and deal with the disease and support challenges these patients have to face. This Disease is causes many different symptoms, including decrease in vision and coordination, exhaustion and pain.

RRT arrived on site at 8:00 AM, and saw there were no other volunteers present. So the RRT started on unloading the supply truck and setting up the equipment. It was 8:45 when some MS volunteers arrived. The Rapid Relief Team members stepped in knowing that organizer from the MS committee was not there, and advised everyone help continue unloading the supply truck.

After the supply truck was unloaded all volunteers split up and started working on setting up the beer gardens while other volunteers filled up the water supply and the last group unloaded the hundreds of bags belonging to the bikers into the gym in the pouring rain. RRT also assisted with setting up tents for some persons company’s contribution to the beer garden. Finally, when the head Organizer arrived all tasks at this building were completed and the head of committee directed all to the main building where we were given Volunteer shirt to wear.

RRT then followed one of the MS committee members over to the Olds arena; this was the location of the evening meal. Here the task was to create a floor plan to set up over 90 tables and over 700 chairs, so along with the MS volunteers everything was set up and this took us until 12:30.

The Rapid Relief Team and other MS volunteers were unaware of having to come back, but grateful to help in any way possible around 8:00 RRT returned recruiting 2 other members to assist in taking everything down. This process only took all volunteers 20 minutes, and after this was complete the volunteers left Olds.
