Abbotsford RRT Serves a Meal to Cops for Cancer at The Junior Team Meal

Cops for Cancer is a fundraising team that raises money to fund Camp Goodtimes, through the Tour de Valley 800 km bike tour. The point of Camp Goodtimes is to allow children that have had cancer and are in remission, or those still going through active treatment, to experience one week of normality during the summer holidays.

During this time, they spend a week at Camp Goodtimes where each rider is responsible for a specific child and in turn the child’s family as well. There are medical staff on site to assist with kids actively battling Cancer, and full lodging to accommodate overnight stays.

In 2016 Rapid Relief Team from Abbotsford supported and helped the Cops for Cancer fund raiser in a number of different events and provided a meal for them during their fundraising cycle ride.

As a result of this, RRT Abbotsford was asked to support again in 2017, but this time at the main highlight of the entire Tour de Valley, the Junior Team Meal. This dinner gives the Cops for Cancer Group a chance to spend a relaxing evening with the children of the Junior Team and their families. The evening consists of series of fun contests and games that has everyone engaged and enjoying themselves.

Therefore, on Monday, September 25, the RRT team provided a BBQ meal for more than 50 people including dedicated men and women from various Police Departments, Canadian Border Services Agency, BC Corrections, BC Sheriffs, and the kids and their families from across the Fraser Valley, that went to Camp Goodtimes.

The support from Save-On Foods (Sumas Way) enabled us to do this by providing everything from the condiments, food, drink, desserts to the flowers to decorate the tables. Thank you, Save-On Foods, – without you we couldn’t have done it!

The comment from the team lead of Tour de Valley was “Thank you RRT, your dinner was fabulous and went above and beyond expectations. I was able to sit back, chat with parents and kids and it was a wonderful feeling knowing that your team had it all covered. Kudos to all of you for an incredible job well done!!”
