On Saturday 7th September, thousands of people took part in the 11th UK Recovery Walk organised by Faces and Voices of Recovery UK (FAVOR).  The UK Recovery Walk celebrates people who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction and supports people who are on their recovery journeys. The walk is held every September as part of International Recovery Month and aims to advocate for those who have decided to get clean, and end the stigma around addiction.

Those taking part included people going through recovery as well as family and friends and members of the public. The event is the largest Recovery Walk in Europe and the Middlesborough RRT team was proud to support the cause by providing catering.

The BBQ was definitely put through its paces – the high volume of people who attended the event meant that RRT Middlesbrough provided their record number of meals, in record time: over 1950 meals served in only 4 hours! A big well done to the 27 volunteers who made it possible.

During the day, RRT members were also delighted to meet the Mayor of Middlesbrough, Andy Preston and Deputy Major, Antony High. The Major said, “If people can break free, anything is possible.” This outlook showed the people of Middlesbrough, “Recovery is Real, Recovery is Possible and Recovery is in Middlesbrough”.
