Everyone needs a place to call home – a comfy bed, hot food to eat, somewhere warm where you can rest and recharge. Unfortunately, not everyone has this. The Liverpool Sleepout is an annual event to build awareness of homelessness and raise funds for support projects. This year the sleepout was held at the St James in the City Church in Upper Parliament Street, attracting more than 150 people. Liverpool RRT was glad to support the event, helping out with a lit gazebo for registration, plus hot drinks and breakfast to those who braved the night sleeping out.

The sleepout is organised by The Whitechapel Centre, the leading homeless and housing charity for the Liverpool region. Hettie Smith, an organiser for the event, said “People bring plastic sheeting, cardboard so they will be building their own shelters, and all have been sponsored to raise money to help the homeless in Liverpool.”

Dave Carter, the CEO of the Whitechapel Centre said: “We have found an ever-increasing number of people who are finding themselves homeless. We need to diversify our ways of raising funds so we can increase the number of services we have in order to meet those needs.”
