The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) purpose is to serve people with care and compassion in their time of need. We are deeply committed to making a positive impact not only on the communities we serve but also on the environment that sustains us all.

Our commitment to sustainability is embedded in every aspect of our work; from the way we source materials for relief efforts to how we manage waste and reduce the carbon footprint of our operations. These principles serve as the foundation for the organisation’s ongoing initiatives and decision-making processes, ensuring that the work we do today will have an enduring positive impact on the environment and the communities we are privileged to serve.

 

Environment

RRT are dedicated to ensuring that our humanitarian and charitable efforts are carried out with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. We recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment, and we are determined to minimise this impact. Our approach is guided by the following principles:

Carbon Footprint Reduction: We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions created by our operations and commit to defining our Net Zero pathway in line with the UK Government commitment to be Net Zero by 2050.

Waste Reduction and Recycling: We are committed to minimising the waste generated through our operations by proactively seeking recycling solutions, eliminating single-use plastics, and implementing best practices in waste management.

Sustainable Sourcing and Operations

RRT is focused on sourcing materials and products that are responsibly and ethically produced and have a lower environmental impact. Our sustainable sourcing practices are built upon the following principles:

Sustainable resource use: We are committed to sourcing sustainable products and materials that minimise waste and maximise opportunities for reuse and recycling.

Ethical and Responsible Procurement: We prioritise partnerships with suppliers who adhere to ethical labour standards, and respect human rights.

Local and Regional Sourcing: We aim to source products and services locally whenever feasible.

Community Engagement

We believe that strong, resilient communities are the foundation of a thriving society. Our commitment to community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. Our community engagement practices are built upon the following principles:

Collaboration & Partnerships: We believe in the power of partnership. We collaborate closely with local community groups, government agencies, and other charities to maximize the effectiveness of our services.

Inclusivity and Diversity: We value the diversity of the communities we serve and are committed to ensuring that our engagement practices are inclusive of all individuals, regardless of background, ethnicity, gender, or age.

Volunteer Engagement: Volunteers are the backbone of our community engagement efforts. RRT is proud to be supported by over 4000 volunteers who are committed to providing support to the community, creating a spirit of collaboration and solidarity.

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) provides care and compassion to people in a time of need, providing solidarity and collaboration with a broad range of partners to solve some of the biggest challenges the world faces.  Our purpose, programmes, and approach to sustainability as a charity align with and support the vision for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), with specific support and contribution to the following goals:
