RRT Supports RNLI’s Lifeboat Weekend
Even if you are someone who doesn’t love the sea, its likely you’ve still heard of the RNLI. This life saving charity is on call 24-hours a day, providing search and rescue and lifeguard service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. To date, they have saved over 142,700 lives!
As a charity, they rely largely on public donations. The Staithes and Runswick lifeboat weekend was a great opportunity for the public to show their support and gratitude to them, and over £10,000 was raised over the weekend alone – a fantastic achievement for everyone involved. The RRT Middlesbrough team were delighted to be a part of the event and provided one thousand free burger meals and refreshments to those attending.
It was a very action packed few days – with lifeboat demonstrations, raft races, fancy dress parades, concerts and firework displays. Along with all the fun, the weekend also served as a great reminder of the amazing work that the RNLI achieves all 365 days of the year. In the words of the event coordinator, Colin Harrison – “The sun shone on Saturday and Sunday and a village full of people enjoyed our lifeboat weekend. We would like to thank them for supporting our charity and also to thank all those volunteers who joined us to help make the day possible.”
It was a privilege to be a part of an event which will help the RNLI continue to answer the call for help at sea.
